Agha, who breathed his last today at the age of 70 after battling pneumonia, leaves behind a legacy of selfless journalism and steadfast integrity that inspired generations.
Born in 1954 in Allahabad, Zafar Agha embarked on his journalistic journey in 1979 with Link Magazine, marking the beginning of a distinguished career spanning over 45 years. Throughout his illustrious tenure, he graced the editorial offices of esteemed publications such as Patriot, Business and Political Observer, India Today, ETV, and the Daily Revolution. His final role was as the Editor-in-Chief of the National Herald, where he continued to uphold the highest standards of journalistic excellence until his last days.
Beyond his journalistic pursuits, Agha was a tireless advocate for minority rights and education. He served as a member of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions, demonstrating a deep-seated commitment to social justice and inclusivity. His contributions to progressive causes extended to his days as a student at Allahabad University, where he actively engaged in left-wing and democratic movements, leaving an indelible imprint on the student community.
Colleagues and friends remember Zafar Agha not only as a consummate professional but also as a compassionate soul who lent a supportive ear and a helping hand to those in need. Agha’s funeral prayers will be held at Dargah Shah Mardan BK Dutt Colony Jod Bagh, followed by burial at Hauz Rani graveyard adjacent to Press Enclave, Saket, a fitting farewell to a towering figure whose legacy will continue to inspire future generations of journalists.
