Former Supreme Court Judge Justice Aftab Alam and Professor Faizan Mustafa Lead Discourse on Constitutional Principles

NEW DELHI- The Ghalib Institute recently hosted the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Memorial Lecture, delving into the theme of ‘Managing Diversity under the Constitution of India’, featuring distinguished speakers and scholars. Former Supreme Court Judge Justice Aftab Alam chaired the event, delivering an impactful speech that underscored the late President’s unwavering dedication to national unity and progress.
Justice Alam passionately emphasized Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed’s tireless efforts in fostering unity, highlighting how it transcended being merely a slogan to become a cornerstone for the nation’s advancement. Reflecting on the Constitution’s acknowledgment of diversity, he commended the visionary approach of its architects in crafting a document that safeguards the rights of every citizen, irrespective of caste, religion, or cultural background.
Professor Faizan Mustafa, Vice Chancellor of Chanakya National Law University, challenged the prevalent misconception that unity and diversity are contradictory concepts. He elucidated that true unity necessitates embracing diversity, pointing to the preamble of the Constitution, which guarantees every individual the right to preserve their unique identity. Using the analogy of a salad plate, he eloquently illustrated how diversity enriches societal fabric while maintaining a shared identity.
In his opening remarks, Ghalib Institute Secretary Prof. Siddiqui Rehman Kidwai underscored the importance of both the chosen topic and speaker, aiming to stimulate insightful discourse on often overlooked subjects. He commended Prof.Faizan Mustafa for his profound insights and expressed gratitude for his gracious acceptance of the invitation.
