Hindu groups claim the site was once home to a Hindu temple, while the Muslim community raises concerns over communal discord.
Sambhal- A board reading “Hari Har Mand Marg” was installed just 500 meters away from the Jama Masjid in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, igniting tensions in the area. The board, placed by Hindu organizations Harhar Sena and Bharatiya Athas Sankalp Samiti, claims that the site of the Jama Masjid was once an ancient Hindu temple that was later converted into a mosque.
The Hindu organizations assert that the place was originally a Hari Har Mandir, and their intention is to highlight this historical fact. “This site was once home to a Hindu temple, and we are working to restore its significance in Hindu history,” said a member of the Bharatiya Athas Sankalp Samiti. “We have historical evidence to back our claims,” they added.
In response to the situation, local police quickly intervened and removed the board in an effort to maintain peace. The police officers painted the board white to prevent any further escalation. “Our primary concern is ensuring law and order in the area,” said Sambhal SP, adding, “No illegal action will be tolerated, and we are committed to preventing any disruptions.”
The Hindu groups, however, maintain that their actions are not aimed at targeting any religion but are part of a broader campaign to “correct India’s distorted history during the Mughal era.” The Bharatiya Athas Sankalp Samiti echoed this sentiment, stressing that their efforts are focused on reviving Hindu heritage.
Meanwhile, the Muslim community has expressed significant concern over the installation of the board. Local Muslim leaders, including the Imam of the Jama Masjid, have raised alarms about the potential for communal unrest. “This move was clearly designed to provoke tensions and disturb the peace in our community,” said a local Muslim leader. “We urge the authorities to take strict action against those responsible for such acts that damage social harmony.”
As of now, the situation remains tense, and both communities are awaiting further developments from the local administration. The authorities have pledged to remain vigilant and ensure peace is maintained in the area.
