RANCHI– Commemorating the Martyrdom Day of the late communist leader Comrade Mahendra Singh, a prominent former CPI(ML) MLA, the people of Jharkhand are rallying in a massive campaign titled “Remove BJP, Save Democracy, Save Country.” Known for his unwavering commitment to public rights, Comrade Mahendra Singh’s legacy lives on as a source of inspiration for public movements.
Every year on January 16, Sankalp Diwas is observed with fervor, drawing thousands of workers, farmers, women, students, and youth from across the state, along with representatives from neighboring states. This year’s campaign has taken on a distinct urgency, transforming into a public movement with the slogan echoing “Remove BJP, Save Democracy, Save Country.”
In the Bagodar Assembly Constituency and throughout Giridih and neighboring districts, a village-to-village public contact campaign is underway. Students, youth, and cultural workers are tirelessly engaging in intensive publicity efforts, emphasizing the importance of unity against divisive forces.
Hemlal Mahato, a dedicated Physics Professor at Ghanghri College, Bagodar, is actively contributing to the campaign by crafting ‘hammer-sickle’ symbol flags and leading groups of youth in door-to-door visits. Reflecting on the critical national situation, Hemlal emphasizes the need for leaders like Comrade Mahendra Singh to counter the divisive tactics of the BJP.
This year’s Sankalp Diwas is seen as crucial preparation for the upcoming 2024 general elections. Bagodar, historically marked by intense political confrontations, has witnessed the fierce resistance led by Comrade Mahendra Singh against feudal-dominant forces supported by the BJP. The BJP’s attempts to sow communal discord are met with grassroots opposition, ensuring social harmony.
In light of the current political climate, Hemlal Mahato underscores the importance of maintaining peace and social harmony to thwart RSS-BJP sponsored communal frenzy. The Grand Alliance’s Hemant Soren government’s efforts to protect natural resources face continuous challenges, with speculations of external control and attempts to destabilize the government.
The unresolved murder case of Comrade Mahendra Singh continues to cast a shadow over Jharkhand’s political landscape. Allegations of political involvement persist, raising questions about the lack of action against the accused named in the FIR. Despite the challenges, the red flag movement initiated by Comrade Mahendra Singh thrives under the leadership of figures like Vinod Singh, a prominent CPI(ML) MLA from Bagodar.
As the Martyrdom Day unfolds, the resounding call to “Remove BJP, Save Democracy, Save Country” echoes through the streets of Jharkhand, carrying forward the legacy of Comrade Mahendra Singh.
