Congress leaders target RSS and BJP’s alleged efforts to weaken the Constitution, pledge social justice for Dalits, tribals, and backward classes
NEW DELHI- In a large-scale rally titled ‘Jai Bhim, Jai Bapu, Jai Sanvidhan’, Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi voiced their strong opposition against recent statements made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. The rally, held in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, was a protest against the perceived threats to the Constitution posed by the BJP and RSS.
Rahul Gandhi, addressing the crowd, delivered a pointed critique of the ruling party, claiming, “Today’s fight is between the Constitution and the RSS-BJP. If the Constitution is abolished, there will be nothing left for the poor, Dalits, and tribals of this country.” He emphasised that the Constitution had guaranteed equal rights to the marginalised, a privilege once reserved for the elite.
He further accused the BJP of attempting to dismantle the Constitution to concentrate the country’s wealth in the hands of a few billionaires, particularly targeting industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani. “The country’s money is going into the pockets of Ambani and Adani, and the government is not giving any account of it. Loans worth Rs 16 lakh crore were waived, but these were not the loans of the poor farmers but of the rich,” Gandhi said.
Rahul also pushed for the implementation of a caste-based census, reiterating Congress’s commitment to ensuring that Dalits, backward classes, and tribals are adequately represented in all spheres of society. “We started a caste-based census in Telangana, and wherever Congress is in power, we will definitely do it. Development is not possible without proper representation of the Dalit, backward, and tribal communities,” he added.
The Congress leader also pointed out the lack of representation of backward classes in the bureaucracy, stating, “Backward classes constitute 50 percent of the population in the country, but their representation in the bureaucracy is less than 5 percent.”
National Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also joined in the criticism of the BJP’s approach to poverty. “Poverty will not be removed by bathing in the Ganga. Concrete policies and practical steps are needed to eradicate poverty,” Kharge asserted. He reaffirmed Congress’s commitment to social justice, making it a key agenda for the upcoming elections.
The rally, which saw participation from Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, and senior Congress leaders from across states, also featured former Madhya Pradesh Chief Ministers Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh, along with former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot.
Rahul Gandhi addressed the gathering of Congress workers as “lions and lions,” urging unity against the forces of hatred. “Together we have to open a shop of love in the market of hatred,” he said. He also rejected the BJP’s slogan of “400 Paar” and reassured the crowd that the Congress and its allies would not allow the BJP to succeed in undermining the Constitution.
The rally was organised on two large stages, with national leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge on the main stage, while district-level leaders occupied the second stage. The event highlighted Congress’s ongoing commitment to social justice and its firm stance against the BJP’s alleged efforts to marginalise the country’s Constitution.
