New Delhi, 25 February 2024:  Deputy Education Director of South Delhi Mohammad Sharique has emphasized the importance of assessment in shaping students’ learning, urging teachers to impart an education that goes beyond textbook knowledge by fostering holistic development with moral values and real-life application of skills.

The Markazi Taleemi Board (MTB), the All India Ideal Teachers Association (AIITA), and the Federation of Muslim Educational Institutions, India FMEII) joined hands to host an online program on assessment in the teaching-learning process. The event, part of a teacher empowerment lecture series, attracted educators, principals, and education administrators from across India.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mohammad Sharique, a prominent educator, shed light on the significance of assessment in the teaching-learning process. Beyond student assessment, Sharique advocated for evaluating teachers, schools, and the entire education system. He urged a holistic approach that ensures the effectiveness of all components within the educational ecosystem.

Remembering facts should not be the primary focus; instead, students should comprehend the practical utility and application of subjects

“Remembering facts should not be the primary focus; instead, students should comprehend the practical utility and application of subjects,” Sharique stated. He drew attention to the ongoing educational reforms, citing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s commitment to skill development at the primary stage. Notably, he pointed out that while examination reforms are yet to be fully realized, the NEP 2020 places a significant emphasis on this aspect.

Mr. Sharique, hailing from Delhi and having served as a school principal in the past, shared his long experience, having written several articles and delivered lectures on various educational topics.

The collaborative effort of MTB, AIITA, and FMEII in bringing together educators from diverse regions underscored the universality of the challenges and aspirations in the education sector. The online program facilitated the exchange of ideas, providing a platform for professionals to discuss the practical implementation of assessment strategies in their respective institutions.

The event did not merely center around assessing students; Mr. Sharique highlighted the importance of extending assessments to teachers, schools, and the education system as a whole. In the larger context of educational reforms, the joint effort of MTB, AIITA, and FMEII signaled a commitment to adapting teaching methodologies to meet the demands of the contemporary world. The program served as a testament to the dynamism required in the education sector, especially in an era where the traditional boundaries of learning are constantly being pushed.
